Anti-Tin-Canning (ATC) upgrade-package
Perfect rolls instead of annoying grooves
When winding BOPET-foils (biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate-foils) in large slitting widths, the so-called tin-canning-effect can occur: Longitudinal grooves appear that remind you of the grooves on tin cans - hence the name.
Kampf counters this with a system that can also be used for existing machines with the anti-tin-canning upgrade. This enables our customers to improve the general quality of their wide finished rolls and effectively prevent creasing and the tin-canning.
As a side effect, the upgrade increases the achievable production speed for wide rolls by 15-30%.
How do we avoid tin-canning?
The most common reason for tin-canning is the inclusion of air between the layers of material. The wider the finished roll and the higher the machine speed, the greater the effect, as it is harder to press-out the air pockets.
To counteract the tin-canning effect, Kampf has developed innovative mechanical adaptations and software updates for existing systems.
Mechanical adaptions
The upgrade aims for the contact roller unit: The contact roller lever will be modified and the contact roller will be adapted. This contains the use of a different rubber coating and the stiffening of the contact roller.
Software update
With the update of the machine software, Kampf provides access to an extended process parameter package and automatic control of the machine speed via the diameter of the roll.
Further improvements
As part of the upgrade, we are also improving the quality of the finished rolls by adjusting the winding stations.
The winding of wide material webs onto a core can lead to core extension. Depending on the properties of the core, this can be up to 15 mm. This has a negative effect on the lifetime of the winding heads and the winding stations. For this reason, we also install a movable sliding plate on the winding station during the anti-tin-canning upgrade, which reduces this effect to a minimum.
Depending on the quality of the original-/mother roll and other factors which we have no direct influence on, the anti-tin-canning upgrade-package increases the speed of the system by 15-30 %.
The retrofit: Complex things made simple
The first step towards higher quality of finished rolls and an obvious reduction of creasing is a detailed support and analysis by our technophile sales team. They can tell you which options are available for your machine and your conditions.
The following on-site conversion is carried out by experienced specialists. They adjust the software and replace as well as integrate the new components.
As part of the commissioning process, our experts together with the responsible persons carry out test runs.
Do you have problems with tin-canning and would you like to realize higher speeds in roll-to-roll production? Our team can support you with many years of experience and based on many successful upgrades.
